Air India Plane Crash in Ahmedabad—Live Updates:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ahmedabad today to review the situation following the tragic Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash that took place on Thursday. The accident resulted in the deaths of all 241 people onboard. PM Modi visited the crash site near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and later met the injured survivors who are being treated at Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital.
PTI reported that the remains of six victims have been handed over to their families after DNA analysis confirmed their identity. Investigators also recovered the aircraft’s black box on Thursday evening, which is expected to shed light on what caused the London Gatwick-bound flight to go down.
Compensation Announced
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, after meeting the sole survivor of the crash, shared that DNA identification is underway for all 241 deceased passengers.
Key compensation details announced so far include:
₹1 crore to the family of each victim from the Tata Group (Air India's parent company)
Approximately ₹1.5 crore per passenger as per the Montreal Convention
As the aircraft was fully insured, total compensation to families is expected to reach around ₹360 crore
Meanwhile, limited operations at the airport have resumed.

Among the 241 passengers on board:
Majority were Indian citizens
53 were from the UK
7 from Portugal
1 from Canada
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani (68) was among those who lost their lives while travelling to London to visit his daughter.
The crash also caused 24 fatalities on the ground after the aircraft impacted the hostel building of B J Medical College in the Meghaninagar area, killing four medical students among others.
