Jim Walton was born in Newport, Arkansas, to Sam Walton and Helen Walton. He is the third of four children, with siblings Rob, Alice, and John Walton (deceased in 2005). Walton grew up in Bentonville, Arkansas, where he attended Bentonville High School, serving as junior class president. He was also an all-state football player and learned to pilot an airplane during his youth.
