Early Life & Education
Born in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh into a family where his father was a school teacher.
Attended local government schools, then earned a diploma in journalism from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
Career Before Politics
Worked 1996–2005 as a journalist with Zee News and All India Radio.
Became active in civil rights activism, including RTI (Right to Information) movement and the Jan Lokpal movement with Anna Hazare.
Political Career
Joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at its founding in 2012 and was part of its Political Affairs Committee.
Elected as Member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly for the Patparganj constituency in 2013, then re-elected multiple times.
Served as 1st Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi (2015–2023) under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
